Hey look, a bandwagon!

Should I give up blogging for twitter? Would doing so save or waste my time? Elaborate below...

I use Twitter as a supplement to blogging, not a substitute... I just post quick links and observations via Twitter, and more detailed ruminations on the blog. Different media for different purposes.

In 140 chars or less it's hard 2 elaborate, but I'll try. Twitter is short & gives access to a lot of quick links; blogs r longer, take time ...

It's wrong to look at it as an either-or situation (though, admittedly, some do). Join the conversation on Twitter if you want to be a part of it - we'd love to have you join us there - but not just because it's in a lemming's nature to follow the crowd.

I'll have to concur that Twitter is more of a compliment to a blog verses a replacement. I don't always have time to visit all the blogs so appreciate the links sent via Twitter, along with the friendly diatribe.

I don't twitter. Please, no twitter, or you'll lose a reader.

It saves and wastes time. Saves it, because you are no longer taking the time to write long thoughtful posts in the evenings (or whenever). Wastes it, because it is *so easy* to fit in a tweet here, a twit there, when you are supposed to be doing something else.

I enjoy reading your blogs. Please don't stop.

Don't stop blogging. Join twitter. We want more lemming. Not less. Unless you are busy raising a little family or something! ;-)

Has anyone done a study of blogging output (in some sort of volume unit) before and afte rthe uptake of twitter? I would be surprised if there was not a statistically significant decline in a medium to large population sample.

So describing it as either/or is an assumption of the hypothesised mean, not a statement of intent.

I wouldn't substitute Twitter entirely for anything. It's only useful as a supplement in my eyes.

If you do use Twitter, PLEASE don't become one of those who tweets: "Hi, just woke up!" ... "Ooh, I'm eating breakfast." ... "It's cornflakes." ... "My dog just pooped on the carpet!" ... etc.

Don't worry Dave, I'll keep that stuff in the blog.

Anecdotal: I don't think there has been a decrease in output by Callan, but am not quite sure (he's maintaining at least two blogs, now, and is on Twitter).
