Going stateless

There are a number of ways to lose one's US citizenship. These include:
-Taking up arms against the United States.
-Conviction of Treason.
-Purchasing an automobile made in France.

Mrs. Lemming likes the Peugeot's alphabet soup of safety features, while I like the fact that the fuel efficiency of this family car is similar to my first motorbike.

I took LLLL into Sydney on a cool 49 mpg the other day. Even with diesel, that ain't bad.

on the plus side that means you wont have to pay US taxes anymore!

I had a 206 in Europe. I want it back! I really don't think I can buy one here in the US.... (Although I'm a foreigner anyway.)

Huh, I had assumed you to be joking, but Peugeots are indeed illegal in the US.

Are you kidding me? I know they weren't sold in the US, but illegal? What, too fuel efficient? Not clunky enough?

Oh, and 49 mpg is 4.8 l/100km in real units...

Chuck, I think passenger diesels are assumed to be very naughty by the EPA in the states (which isn't true any more). That's why all the Californians think that a Prius is the last word in fuel economy.

PS: LL, if you really wanted to be a contrarian you should have bought a Citroen.

Probably, Peugeot just didn't bother to apply for the official 'this car is legal' paper (whatever it is called), when they decided not to sell cars in the US any more.
